The "Coffee Friends" Project has created and helps to support day care centers at rural communities to provide care for farm workers' children, preparing them for primary school and allowing their mothers to work in the coffee fields, thus increasing the income of these families.
- The Posses da Serra rural community, in Monte Belo, is inhabited by 130 families of farm workers and small producers. The town has built a day care center which is staffed and maintained with resources from this program and cares for fifty children, giving them education, nutrition and basic hygiene and health care.
- Some of our producing partners have their farms around Serra dos Lemes, a small district of the city of Cabo Verde, and recruit their field workers at this village. The community day care center at this village also receives our support, and thirty-three children are cared for, with an increased number of attendants during the harvest season.
